Yodeling Workshop

Few sounds are as instantly tied to Switzerland as the echo of a yodel bouncing off alpine cliffs—and this workshop lets you try it for yourself. Guided by a local singer, you’ll learn the basics of shifting between chest and head voice, the vocal technique that creates the distinctive call once used to communicate across valleys.

The atmosphere is lighthearted and welcoming, with plenty of laughter as everyone finds their rhythm (and sometimes their wobble) in those first attempts. Along the way, you’ll hear about the history of yodeling, from its pastoral roots with herders to its role in Swiss folk music today. By the end, you won’t just appreciate hearing a yodel—you’ll have experienced the joy of sending your own voice into the mountains, however tuneful or not it might be.
